Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Summer

Well, I guess it's obvious that summer is finally here by the lack of my presence on the blog. Alek is finished school (onward to grade 3), we are in-between babysitters at the moment, and I am on a two-week break before my summer session starts. Mostly we have been hanging around the house, working on the yard and watering the garden.

Today I have been busy trying to get laundry caught up and pack for the lake. This week we will be celebrating my dad's 60th birthday, my mom's birthday and their anniversary. The whole family is heading out to the cabin to help them celebrate. With any luck the weather will be beautiful, everyone will have a good time, and the little ones will be good sleepers.

Cross your fingers for me and have a great week!

Grey Day

Today is an amazing day.

Alek has been busy playing with Mikah and Lukas ALL DAY! He has been playing with them, engaging them in activities that they can do, and hasn't been screaming at them at all. Alek has a really hard time understanding that the little boys can't do the things that he can do, and that they don't necessarily have the same behaviour standards yet that we expect of him. Most things in Alek's life are black and white, he has a hard time understanding that the world is mostly made up of shades of grey.

Today, he has had a grey day. I sure hope for all of our sakes that this is an indication that there will be more grey days to come.

Goodnight Mom

One of my great deals thanks to Kijiji, was a large box filled with parenting magazines. For Free! Yay, I just love free stuff! And magazines! I like looking through them for ideas; recipes, crafts, stories, etc.

In one issue of Parents magazine I found this great take on an old favorite. Mikah loves it when we read Goodnight Moon and My World, so this take on the familiar story made me laugh out loud. Hopefully other parents can relate.

Goodnight Mom
(with apologies to Margaret Wise Brown) By Sarah Jio
In the messy green
family room
There was a telemarketer ringing the telephone
And a crying toddler
because his brother just popped his
red balloon
And a picture of--
The cow jumping over the moon (which someone colored on with
permanent marker)
And there was a missing
teddy bear, and a girl with
gum in her hair
And one to be scolded
And laundry to be folded
And a very hungry spouse
And something stinky in the house
(that no one else seemed to smell)
And a comb and a brush and a colicky baby who just won't shush
And a frazzled mommy screaming #*%#@
Goodnight messy room
Goodnight scribbled-on moon
Goodnight cow getting out while she can
Goodnight telemarketers and the
popped balloon
Goodnight long-gone teddy bear
Goodnight cereal bar smeared all
over the dining room chair
Goodnight spitup
And goodnight leaky sippy cup
Goodnight much-too-little house and goodnight grumpy spouse
Goodnight comb and goodnight brush
And goodnight to a certain 4-year-old who just needs to hush
right now I mean it

Goodnight Elmo
Goodnight toys we'll pick up tomorrow,
or the next day
Hello chardonnay and TiVo--
"me" time finally

Quiet Will Soon Be Mine

We are eagerly awaiting my in-laws, who are graciously whisking our two youngest off to the farm for the weekend. The bags are packed and the kids are already strapped into their carseats in the entryway waiting. Well... almost.

I am so looking forward to a weekend of no diapers, no screaming, no 2 year-old tantrums and sleeping all night. Bliss, sweet bliss!

On a side note... Lev just cleaned the bathroom. Do all men think that if you just douse the room in bleach it will be clean??? My lungs are clean, that's for sure. We may have to leave the house while it airs out. Maybe no bleach next time; ok?

Heartless

The Fray has kicked Kanye's ass with their cover of this song. I've been meaning to link to their version for awhile now, but would get side tracked.

Hmm, I just found this one too. This kid is awesome! Love it, well done!

Boys Will Be Boys

It has finally been so beautiful and hot here that Alek and I set up the pool this afternoon. Once Mikah woke up from his nap, it was off to the races! They had quite the time splashing water at each other from across the pool (it was deemed way to cold to actually get in). It didn't take long for Mikah to lose his diaper. It wasn't long after that that he was busy impersonating a dog. He peed on the patio, his bike, the wiggle car, a dirt pile, a tree, and most likely his brother too.

I don't get it but both he and his brother thought the whole thing was hilarious. Boys.

Last Day

Today is my last full day of teaching; for a few weeks anyway. I'm really looking forward to the short break. I'm feeling slightly burned out but at the same time it's hard to believe how fast the year has flown by.

Now, if only summer would actually get here. Seriously. Enough with the sad weather already.

Vroom Vroom

Mikah's favorite activity is driving the van. I often let him sit up there and pretend to cruise the streets to his hearts content while I am busy carrying groceries or children into the house. He is beyond thrilled when you jump in the passenger seat and let him play chauffeur for a change. The other day he was driving and I was enjoying a relaxing ride. But he's no dummy. "Key." He wanted me to put the key in so he could start the van. But, I'm no dummy either.

So he thought and reassessed the situation. Hmm, if a key wouldn't be going in the slot... bingo! "Loonie! Loonie pease!" Yep, it must be a loonie that makes the car go, just like the ones at the mall.

Smart boy, but I'm hoping that I never find any money shoved in the ignition. Then the whole thing might not be so hilarious.

~Grrr~

I have had the absolute worst day. I didn't think anything could possibly make it better and then I saw this. It reminds me of something my sister and I would do. Yep, we're ridiculous. So Heather, this is for you. Thanks for keeping me sane. Well, sane-ish.

I'm Here

It would seem that I haven't been keeping up my posting lately. Hopefully you can forgive me. I took some "me time" on the weekend and went to visit my sister. It was so nice to get away and have some time to hear my own thoughts and unwind. We wandered aimlessly around some shops which was unusual for me. My shopping life now consists of running into and out of stores, make that as few stores as possible, racing down the aisles while trying to keep the little ones from pulling out each others hair, and dodging the toy aisles as much as possible. Not exactly a relaxing or enjoyable experience.

I got to try on clothes. By myself in a changing room. Amazing! And I even found some that fit this post baby body, even more amazing! It's so nice to have decent clothes in the closet again instead of schlepping around in things that I wear because they fit, they all go together and they are quick and easy to put on. Oh, and covered in drool, snot, and food stains. I'm slowly starting to feel like myself again.

It was such a beautiful day on Saturday that we decided to go and play golf. Much hilarity occurred. Well, on my part anyway. Let me just say, the LPGA has nothing on me LOL! It was good times. Followed by a few drinks. In a lounge, not while lounging on my couch after all the kids are finally in bed for the night. They were fun drinks, not sanity saver drinks, if you know what I mean...

Sunday I slept in. Past 8:30. It was like being young again. Anyway, all in all, an excellent weekend. I think I'll be there again next weekend Heather!
